Continuation from yesterday's email on "How to pick a profitable niche" and another long email, sorry.

Once you have a niche idea, then you need to do a little bit of research on keywords.

You can find your keywords yourself.

To get keywords for free, plug your chosen niche into Google and then take the first ten results for each seed keyword.

Use a number of terms related to your niche that you think people might be searching for then you can look over the sites that come up in the search and pull out all of the terms and phrases that get mentioned on those websites.

There are loads of free tools out there as well, that will help you to find keywords relating to your niche.

For example, http://www.keyword.io will give you hundreds of keyword ideas when you type in your seed keyword or phrase.

With this list, stick it into Google keyword planner, and you will get a big list of keywords and phrases in return all with search volume, CPC etc.

If you have active campaigns running in Adwords then you can get detailed data from this tool, if not you will only get rough estimates, but once again there are paid tools out there, such as Semrush that will give you more accurate information.

If you have access to ahrefs, then it's even easier.

You can put in the list of competitors that you find in your niche, and ahrefs will give you a list of keywords and phrases that each competitor is ranking for – this is a cool way of finding profitable keywords to target.

And the best part is this – if you find the sites that are medium in size (Not the big brands) but other niche or independent sites, then you know straight away that you can rank for these terms because you are competing against these other relatively small sites.

Even if you don't have access to ahrefs, you can order a report from somewhere like fiverr.com for, as the name implies, five bucks.

There you have it,

A niche site you can rank.

Tomorrow I'll talk about the monetisation of your site.

Regards,
Brent.

P.S.  Once you have found your niche and keywords you'll need to build a site and create content for it.

Before you go all gangbusters on building out a site with 20 - 50 pages of content, start with one or two pages and test the market for viability.

There are a couple of things you can do to test.

Create a page using a YouTube video that is on your primary keyword.

Run the video through otter.ai, https://go.wm-tips.com/otter, to get the transcript and edit the transcript.

Add comments before, and after the transcript, you have to put your keywords in somewhere, this is where.

This post will give you Google love because visitors will stay to watch the video or read the transcript or both.

Time on site is a significant metric for Google currently.

Doing a couple of these is all you need to test.

Tell Google about your site, set up a sitemap on your site.

If you use WordPress, several plugins do that for you.

Go to Google Webmaster tools and list your website URL.

You can search for your URL after a minute or two to make sure the Google bot has indexed your site, yes it can be that quick.

Some people use a screenshot of this search result to tell you how they got to the first page of Google in 3 minutes; this is deceptive.

Tell people about your new site and give them the link in your email list, your Facebook timeline or any other places you hang out.

You can see an example I'm building up right here https://byob.wm-tips.com. This is a brand new site that I started yesterday.
