I haven't done this yet, but I've been thinking about it for a long time.

A bit of background.

Before I was married for the first time, my then girlfriend and I went on a road trip to Port Lincoln from Mount Gambier (look it up on a map of South Australia if you are interested).

Each night I read some of "The Grapes of Wrath" to her.

I enjoyed the book, and she enjoyed listening to it.

To be honest, I had forgotten about that and how much she enjoyed it, but it was a good bonding experience.

Fast forward to a couple of years ago when I seemed to be always reading stories to the grandchildren.

There were evenings when I would have 4 of them on my lap as I read some story to them.

Fast forward to today, my wife is listening to an audiobook as I write this.

My youngest daughter listens to audiobooks during her daily commute.

Are you picking up what I'm putting down here?

If you like to read, why not record yourself reading your books?

They don't have to be all recorded in one sitting and you do not have to do all the different characters

You only have to read the book out loud.

If you also link to the Amazon book as an affiliate, you might make some sales there, but your audiobooks' sales could be significant on their own.

I don't know, I haven't done this ... yet.

I suspect that in today's busy world, this could be the gold mine you have been looking for.

You don't need any equipment other than your phone, although better audio quality may work better.

One for Jutley, if you record African stories with the background noise, you could be on a winner. I really have no idea what would work the best, try stuff, test it out, who knows where it can take you.

You'll probably need to have between 10 — 20 audiobooks online to get any traction, but since the cost is close to zero (heard of libraries?), all it will cost you is some time.

Regards,
Brent.

P.S.  One thing you will need if you go down this path is a way to build an email list so you can let people know when you publish a new audiobook.

There are two autoresponders that I recommend at the moment.

TrafficWave and SendSteed.

TrafficWave has the better features but is a monthly paid service.

https://www.trafficwave.net/members/wmtips

SendSteed is free but has some limitations.

https://sendsteed.com/?r=burtm10

Both are worth having, so pick the one that works for you and get started.

As always, if you need help with any of this, please reply to this email and ask.

I'm always happy to help in any way I can.
