This plaintive cry is one that I see and hear in groups and emails all over the Internet, but I here to tell you that there is no validity to thinking that way.

If you believe that this statement is true, then you have not been doing your research. If this offends you and you unsubscribe, then I'm sorry to see you go, but at some point, someone needs to tell you the truth.

In that PDF, there is a short case study of a successful website in a micro-niche. You need to have a good look at the stats shown for this site as they are very revealing.

A quick summary, he gets 1.29 million visitors a month. The average visitor stays for just 1:31 minutes and looks at 1.82 pages. His bounce rate is 69.54%.

They look like pretty crappy stats, most of his visitors don't stay and don't read his content, but when he launched a course after building the site up over 2 years, it generated over $150,000 in 4 days.

Can you do that?

Possibly, if you dedicate yourself to continually building the website and generating traffic to it.

People often don't make a success of their websites because they lose interest in them after a while.

I have done this myself many times. I don't go back to them to improve them either.

You need to find a niche that you can work in for months or years without losing interest.

Not motivation, interest, you are not looking for your "passion" site because if you do that you'll probably never get one built at all.

Motivation is over-rated as a force to keep you going.

Being interested in a subject is often all you need to keep digging into it, and that's what you need to make a successful website.

Find out new or interesting stuff and share it, that's all you have to do. You do not have to create a brand spanking new never seen before content for your site as some would have you believe. 

Before they try to sell you a tool to create that for you from a whole bunch of content they downloaded from Ezine Articles and spun, so it reads like a Dr Zeus book curated by a four-year-old.

Most of your visitors will be looking for short-cuts to the content they want; your job is to supply it on one easy to navigate website.
