In Malcolm Gladwell's book, "Outliers: The Story of Success", he claimed that a scientific study had shown that it takes 10,000 hours of practice to be able to perform at a world-class level in your chosen field.

The logic behind this is that all you had to do was practice for 10,000 hours if you want to perform at that level.

However, the authors of that study have stated that Gladwell's interpretation was not correct.

The paper on the study stated that the top-performing violin students at a Music Academy in Berlin had practised for an average of 10,000 hours by the time they were 20 years old.

The problem with this for Gladwell is that they were not world-class at this stage.

They would need to keep at it for at least another ten years to reach that stage.

This study's bottom line is that you do not have to study or practice for 10,000 hours to become good at anything

A few hundred hours will be enough to be better than most, and you can keep getting better the more you practice.

You have to do the right sort of practice though, just going through the motions is not enough.

Deliberate practice is required.

Deliberate practice is when you strive to do better than you did last time.

You push yourself to improve every time you set out to do whatever you wish to master.
