It's sort of true that you need to be noticed in your niche as an 'Expert' or 'Authority', it's not the only way to be successful in a niche but it works for some. The problem is that most of the advice given on how to do that is misleading at best or unbelievably wrong. Pretty much all of the advice is to “write articles, publish a book, do videos, webinars, podcasts”. If you want to be seen as an expert you do have to get your message out to your ideal customer that's true. But how many of the people following this advice are seen as experts? Almost none of them are seen as experts in their niche. You do have to publish but publishing alone isn't the answer. You have to have something new to say. Something that resonates with your target audience. Something insightful that gives them a new perspective and helps them do something they couldn’t before. Something that simplifies the complex or clears up the fog. You will need to know how to get published, to write blog posts, to do podcasts and videos in just the same way that a great vineyard needs to know how to get its wine out to its customers. But it’s not the distribution system that makes a wine or an expert great. It’s what’s in the bottle or article or video or book. Far too much content is simply common knowledge regurgitated. No one needs another “7 tips for growing your social media following” article. And changing the number makes no difference unless those tips are new and different for your audience. Sure some of them will be the same but you have to have something different as well. If you want to become known as an expert, your most important task is to create ideas and insights that are both valuable to your clients and genuinely different from what everyone else is saying. Focus on that first, then worry about how to get it out to the world. Focus on that and you’ll be doing both yourself and your audience a favour. Regards, Brent. P.S. Now, something that I picked up this week that I think you might be interested in. No I don't need to see a doctor. You can use PLR for this, if you re-write it as you should and it doesn't breach the licensing. You can use any of your old content or ideas as we have discussed in previous emails. This probably won't make you a motza of cash but it will provide you with a nice steady income once you have things set up. How does writing a 1 - 10 page book sound? I'm in the process of putting up a bunch of 2 page books using this process so I'll be able to report how well it's going in a week or two. In the mean time you could have a bunch of these up and running for yourself. Check out this micro books idea for yourself. No upsells or any of that crap so what you see is what you get and it's worth every penny. |
