About two years ago, Google started setting up their .new top-level domain name extension.

They didn't allow anyone else to play with it while they figured out how to use it themselves, but it's coming into the realms of public usage, except Google will not allow just anyone to register for one.

However, here are some that you can try out.

Type docs.new into your URL bar.

If you are logged into your Google account, this will open a new document ready for you to start typing.

Here is the full list as of today:

• sheets.new (Google Sheets)
• sheet.new (Google Sheets)
• slides.new (Google Slides)
• slide.new (Google Slides)
• keep.new (Google Keep)
• forms.new (Google Forms)

• cal.new (Google Calendar)
• meeting.new (Google Calendar)
• sites.new (Google Sites)
• site.new (Google Sites)

Now Google's making that little bit of magic available to the rest of the internet as well. These are the front runners.

• Playlist.new: Create a new playlist to add songs on Spotify.
• Story.new: Write about what matters to you on Medium.
• Canva.new: Create beautiful designs with your team.
• Webex.new: For an easy, fast, and secure way to start a personal meeting room from any browser, try this shortcut from Cisco Webex.
• Link.new: Instantly create trusted, powerful, recognizable links that maximize the impact of every digital initiative using Bitly.
• Invoice.new: Create, customize and send customer invoices directly from the Stripe Dashboard.
• Api.new: Prototype and launch your ideas for new Node.js API endpoints with this shortcut from RunKit.
• Coda.new: Simplify your team's work with a new doc that combines documents and spreadsheets into a single canvas.
• Music.new: Create personalized song artwork for OVO Sound artist releases, pre-save upcoming music, and play the latest content with a single click.
• Sell.new: to list something on eBay.
• Repo.new: Add to the Github repository.
• Word.new: Create a Microsoft word document.
• Excel.new: Create an excel spreadsheet.

There will be more, but they will also be restricted, Google is controlling access reasonably tightly, so there will only be reputable companies able to register these.

Just in case you thought that things had slowed down online.
