For quite a few years, the Google mantra has been "write good content, and they will come. You'll be rewarded with links back and better rankings." This is what's better known as B.S. This is the Internet, and no-one can find your content, good or not, if there is no link to it unless you have an email list to tell them about it. But you still need a link in that email, so I guess that doesn't count. Well, it seems that you need two things. Good content and at least one link to it. What, then, is "good content"? There is a never-ending debate over that online, and you don't want to get into that as you'll never get a definitive answer. This definition has worked well for me for many years and seems to hold true in all niches. Good content is content that the visitor reads. Did that help? Maybe not much, but it's true. Think about what you stop to read. Usually, it's informative and covers a subject in which you have at least a passing interest. It doesn't have to be the best writing if it's interesting or entertaining. Too many spelling mistakes or grammatical problems make it hard to read, but if it's got your interest, you'll gloss over that a bit. You may have noticed that I did not say it had to be original. That is not one of the criteria for ranking, despite what many self-styled gurus will try to tell you. As long as you are not just doing a copy/paste of someone else's work, there is no reason you can't rank by using it. What you have to do to make their content your own is to curate it. This means commenting on the original work with a lead paragraph or trailing paragraph or comments within their work that either agrees or disagrees with it. You can even embed a YouTube video, add a transcript to that video, and comment on the whole lot. That's the type of content that gets engagement from your visitors, which shows up as comments. See this example of a new site https://byob.wm-tips.com/motivation-comes-from-within; you can see that I'm doing what I've suggested works and getting comments on the posts and pages. The site isn't monetized yet. It needs to mature a little first, I think, but that is a personal preference. I don't think it matters a whole lot. Regards,
Once you have the first post up, you'll need to get links to it, and this is a great way to get good quality visitors. https://go.wm-tips.com/social. There you have it, how to get your site set up, what sort of content to post, where to get the links from to bring the visitors. Any questions, email me by replying to this one. |
