You never know how much those people are hurting inside. 

Often they won't tell you for fear of seeming weak.

I recently discovered that my younger brother is very ill.

I hardly see him because he lives on the other side of the city to me, and he lives a different lifestyle.

Over the last five years, I have seen him to speak with maybe ten times, possibly fewer.

It was different for the thirty years I lived in places far removed from Adelaide, the tyranny of distance conspired to make our contacts few and far between.

I no longer have that excuse. Even less now that I know he is struggling.

As a result of that revelation, I made the effort to catch up with him last Friday, and I think I need to make that a regular thing.

It's funny, we chatted away like we haven't been living totally different lives for the last thirty-plus years.
