How many customers do you really need to make a living?

It's an interesting question, don't you think?

According to Kevin Kelly, you only need 1,000 true fans who will buy on average $100 per year from you, and you'll be making a comfortable living.

Now, this ratio can change to suit your product offerings and pricing, but the concept itself is essential to understand.

What Kevin is really saying is that it is much easier to gather 1,000 people who like the way you do things and buy stuff that you either produce or promote than it is to find one million customers who average $0.10 in revenue for you.

Unfortunately, most people in the creative space, and that includes Internet Marketers, seem to think they need to have those million customers and therefore target the really competitive niches and keywords.

This leaves the rest of the market, who are totally unserved, wide open for someone with a bit of vision. 👀

It also means that even those niches that some people would say to stay away from can be profitable for you and the big competitors cannot serve. 🎉

The Internet is now so populated that you only need to attract one person in a million to be able to make a living.

Can you do that?

Of course you can, you only need to be honest in your content and spread your message around.

P.S. One of the keys to finding and communicating with your fan base is email.

This is a tool which you control fully and cannot be taken away from you by an algorithm change or a 'we don't like you any more" attitude with the subsequent closing of your account.

If you are not building an email list why not?

I believe that you cannot have an Internet business without an email list, even if you do get most of your visitors via a social media platform.

Get them from there sure, but get them on your email list as soon as possible.
