I ask this question because I get a report every week of the various attacks on some of my websites.

Some of these are very low traffic websites, if it weren't for me, the bots and the hackers they would have no traffic at all.

Fortunately, I have good security on all my WordPress websites, and so I get reports, but no damage is done.

What do I use?

I use Wordfence and have done for years.

I only use the free version because it's too expensive to put the paid version on all my websites, it may be worth it for a single high-traffic site but not for a lot of low traffic ones.

It doesn't seem to have a significant impact on the protection on my sites as I get those reports weekly which tell what was blocked and why.

Now there are some things you can do that are basic and will help protect your WordPress sites from the constant barrage of hack attempts.

Number one is get rid of Admin as a login name, the way I do it is to use a different login name and then set the nickname to Admin.

Why?

It makes it so much harder for hackers.

They see that the person posting the content is called Admin, so they assume the login name is Admin, the default for WordPress.

I have Wordfence set to immediately block anyone trying to login with the username Admin or admin.

It also blocks them if they try to create that username.

That little trick massively slows down any hacking attempt.

If you are the only one who needs to use your blog, then set up 2FA for yourself and hacking becomes almost impossible.

You don't need any sneaky trick plugin that you'll have to pay monthly for, most of what they suggest is pointless if you have these three things working for you.

Get your weekly emails and enjoy the security.

Brent.

P.S. You read these emails because you enjoy them, I hope, and because you sometimes learn something useful, perhaps.

I add stuff in the P.S. that I think you might be able to get some benefit from.

This is a little funnel that I put together after chatting with Andy Brocklehurst, one of the people I have a lot of respect for as a marketer.

There are several things in this that you may find interesting, so go through the process and look carefully at how it has been put together from a marketers point of view.

Could you emulate this?

Could you use this?

Have a look.
