I had trouble believing this could happen, but it apparently did.

The student, un-named for privacy reasons, was put under citizens arrest by his teacher while he was in class.

It seems that he wrote on a piece of paper with a permanent marker and it bled through the paper onto the desk.

A police officer called and took the boy to a juvenile detention centre where he stayed for an unknown length of time. 👮‍♀️

What did he do wrong?

In Ordinance 35-202 for Oklahoma City, it is illegal to be in possession of spray paint or a permanent marker on private property without permission.

This was an attempt to prevent graffiti vandals and their work.

I can't bring myself to call them 'artists' because they are really mostly vandals.

The boy used a permanent marker to write on his paper, so it wasn't writing on the desk that was the problem, it was the marker itself.

Due to his age, there are no records of what happened next, but I suspect that he was released.

It would be pretty hard for the school to be considered private property.
