Winston Churchill said 'It is no use saying "We are doing our best." You have to succeed in doing what is necessary.'
You probably know of people who do say they are doing their best, but you know that they are not even close to doing their best and they are definitely not doing what is required. I used to see this all the time in my last position. The problem was that the company had previously been owned by the Government and many of the original staff were still employed there. Government employees do not work the same way as employees in private enterprises. When they claimed to be doing their best what they were really saying was I'm doing just enough to look like I'm working, but I want this job to last as long as possible. They weren't lazy per se, but many of them didn't extend themselves. Unfortunately, that attitude doesn't cut it in today's competitive environment. Many times I saw employees leave the company to go work in private enterprise and they were generally back inside six months. They discovered that private enterprise expected them to work the full day, not just a couple of hours. But what about you? Are you putting in as much effort as required to reach your goals or are you doing just enough so that you can fool yourself that you're working? Facebook, YouTube, Etsy, Pinterest, Instagram and online shopping taking up too much of your time? As long as you understand that these activities will make someone else cash happy, and you're happy with that then keep doing what you're doing.
Regards, Brent.
