Technology was supposed to make us smarter by giving us access to more information.

But with more than 1,000 years of data uploaded every day, and the equivalent of 212,765,957 DVDs every day by 2025 we are all overwhelmed.

Unfortunately, the bulk of the content uploaded is crap.

We get distracted by snippets of information and never get to go deep.

We are increasingly being distracted but not educated.

This distraction is the reason so many people fail when they attempt marketing online.

A nephew of friends of ours has such an inflated opinion of himself that he refused to go to school for the last couple of years.

He thinks he could be a surgeon because he is "so smart" but fails to realise that he has to complete his schooling.

Then do six years of university study, several years of internship and many more years of study before he can get those qualifications.

You can't become a surgeon because you decide you are smart enough.

You can't do it by reading summaries.

You have to read and study the whole book.

Most people fail because they only want the summary, it's the TL;DR; generation.

Successful people will tell you how they persevered, how they read the books, attended the seminars, put in the time etc.

How do we combat this and become more productive?

  1. Unplug from the screen. Yes, it's tough, but it is essential. One day a week screen-free, and at least an hour a day away from the screen will make a huge difference.

  2. Put your thoughts on paper. While your subconscious is infinite, your conscious mind is finite. If you don't write things down, you'll forget them or get over cluttered.

  3. Get some sleep.  You make mistakes when you are tired. Eight hours is a myth; some people need more, some less. Get what you need.

  4. Choose your content wisely and commit to long-form content - follow it with action.  The problem with information overload is that people have allowed it to come to them. You won't learn anything that way. You need to find and consume in-depth content and commit to taking action on at least some of it.

P.S.  It's crucially important to have an excellent base to launch your marketing career.

Most successful marketers begin with affiliate marketing because they can concentrate on learning marketing and traffic before they have to learn product creation.

The best affiliate marketing training comes from Andie Brocklehurst, who I have known for several years now.

He is a blunt-talking straight-shooter who has been marketing online since before the Internet began.

This module is the training he gives to his coaching clients.

You get it with a massive discount over what they have to pay.
