Sometimes it can be difficult to get your tribe to take the action you know will help them get what they want.
Mostly this is because they can’t see themselves getting what they really want.
What do they really want?
Most people seem to want freedom in one form or another.
Most people also think that having more money can help them get that freedom.
The problem comes down to the fact that most people can’t see themselves actually creating or earning that money to gain their freedom.
How do you help them see their way to their goals?
You tell them a story of how someone was in the situation they were in and gained their freedom by doing the things that you know they need to do.
Whatever you have to say to your audience, chances are telling it as a story will make it more digestible, memorable, and therefore more influential in future decisions.
So take your piece of info and add:
- At least one character. They do something, or something happens to them.
- A setting – where the story happens. Might start out good and turn bad, necessitating a desire to return to the good place.
- A conflict. This is the struggle, the problem, the obstacle keeping the main character from getting what they desire.
- A resolution, wherein the hero does regain control over their situation, solve their problem, and get what they want in the end.
The trick is, whatever you want the reader to do – get some info, click a link, buy a product – that is EXACTLY what the hero did, too.
You’re just inviting the reader to make this their own story, too.
The thing is that stories have been used for all of human history to pass on information and knowledge so they are accepted for what they are.
Try it.

P.S. My niece wanted to earn an income away from her day job.
She was good at it but didn’t enjoy it and it was too restricting for her to do the things she really wanted to do.
One Christmas, about 5 years ago I sat with her and had a long chat about what she wanted and how she could go about getting it.
I suggested several things which she rejected abut I made one suggestion that she liked and took up.
I was at her 40th birthday party recently and she told me that she hasn’t worked for a boss for 4 years.
I knew she had been doing OK with her online activities but I didn’t know how well.
What does she do?
She writes fantasy romance novels and sells them on Kindle.
She makes a nice income and lives her life on her terms.
Now that’s freedom.
As a bonus, she told me that after our chat she talked things over with her brother’s girlfriend who also started writing novels and publishing on Kindle.
She also doesn’t work for a boss and hasn’t for about the same length of time.
In fact, she is doing well enough that her boyfriend, my nephew, has gone back to study full time at University.
That’s also freedom.
Their freedom came about because they took a good idea and acted on it.
Is this your freedom idea?
