I just checked, they still exist, but my account seems to be closed. I recently came across an article discussing why MySpace lost to Facebook. MySpace was probably the first social network that succeeded. But by 2008, Facebook overtook it. Why? That was because MySpace focused on one-way communication from celebrities or specific influencers to their fans, as they thought these influencers could bring them more users. On the other hand, Facebook focused on developing more tools and apps to facilitate the interaction among its users, i.e. making communication among its users more comfortable. MySpace might have worked as hard as Facebook and invested as many resources in developing apps and tools, but their focus was wrong. They had failed to focus on the reason why their users joined them in the first place. Hence their users switched to Facebook. Myspace failure is a good lesson for me and you. It's all about what your users want. If you don't keep delivering things that are useful for them, then they'll wander off looking elsewhere. The other thing you and I need to do is keep on top of trends so that we can keep our readers current. Emails that don't get opened are no use to anyone. Bill Gates may have said "content is king", but that's not entirely true. Enjoyable, entertaining content is king. Boring content is just filler, and no-one needs more filler. Regards, Brent P.S. I still haven't got the right to share that other content with you, but I'm working on it. The Internet moves fast, and Wayne Crowe has put together something that you really should take advantage of. You can find out more from him in the free Facebook group. |
