I won't spoil the story if you haven't, but it's about a writer who had a bad car crash and was saved by his #1 fan, except saved might not be quite the right word.

Anyway, the point is not about the story so much as about the writing the author has to do.

Most people can write, but they cannot do so for any length of time.

The thing is that the work of writing is the ability to write for hours at a time, not to bang out a couple of hundred words and think you've written something great.

You might have, but probably only once you have mastered the physical act of writing for the sake of writing.

Once Harlan Ellison set himself up in the window of a book shop in full view of the foot traffic.

He then wrote for a solid 8 hours to demonstrate that writing is work, not just a casual stroll through a few minutes at a time.

So if you want to become good at writing or you want to become a professional writer, you need to set aside a few hours for solid writing.

Take no breaks. Don't stop to think for more than a minute or two.

Have refreshments handy, so you don't have to get up.

Make it up as you go. Write about how hard it is to write for an hour.

Write whatever as long as it isn't plain gibberish.

It doesn't matter if the result is crappy.

The point of the exercise is to get good at doing the work of writing.

Keep practising until you can sit down and write for a couple of hours without stopping.

This way, when you do get good ideas, and everyone does, you'll be able to write them down for blog posts, reports, books or whatever you desire.

If you cannot manage that, then be prepared to pay an outsourcer to do the writing for you.

Regards,
Brent.
