I thought it was only me who started projects and then loses interest.

I have recently discovered that it happens to most people at various stages and some more than others.

This pattern is not your fault; you have never had the training to avoid it.

The problem with this behaviour pattern is that it gets challenging to complete any project far enough to see any return on your previous work.

That is why so many people say they want to write a book, but don't get started, or if they do, they never finish it.

The same with any project.

Then there are a few people who always finish what they start.

They are the ones who seem to live a charmed life.

<insert your own bad thoughts about those people>

I don't know if you have experienced this, but I have sometimes managed to reach the flow state, to be 'in the zone', where time seems to stand still, and everything you do becomes effortless.

That is our most productive time, but we seem to reach that point rarely.

This mental zone is recorded in many different cultures, so it's a function of humans not of environment or genetics.

The amazing thing is that we can all learn how to get onto this productive zone more often, which means that we can all become more productive.

We have a much better chance of reaching our goals.

I have found what may be a solution for me and you.

There is logic to it, and I can do this easily, as can you, not that you need help.

There is a simple 5-minute exercise that you can do anytime you begin feeling demotivated, stressed, loss of concentration or distracted.

Sit in a comfortable position or lie down.

Close your eyes and focus on your breathing.

Breath in while counting to three, hold your breath for a three count, breath out while counting to three, hold it for a three count.

When your mind wanders, as it probably will, bring your focus back to your breathing.

Listen to it; feel it; try to see it.

That's it.

Do that for 5-minutes every day or multiple times during the day and your focus will improve.

As your focus improves so will your ability to get more things done, and you will get into 'the zone' more often.

Regards,
Brent.

P.S. That didn't half sound like a bunch of woo woo did it?

I learned that from a video made by a cognitive scientist giving a talk on Intelligence squared.

There is some excellent stuff on Ted talks, TedX and many other sites that gather fascinating people to talk about exciting things.

Some under-the-radar people are doing fascinating things in the way they market products.

I've managed to track some of them down and grill them a little, they won't reveal their target market in most case, but they do explain how they are making money quickly in unconventional but legal ways.

Most of their methods are simple enough that you could copy what they do and expect similar results.
